Ms. Jemiai has a background in Economics, Demography and Public Administration. She has been working for more than 30 years in development related activities. She is currently the Deputy Chief of the Governance and Public Administration Branch, Division for Public Administration, in the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. Previously, she was the Coordinator for the Team on Civil Service Reform and Human Resources Management and Development. In her more than 15 years at the UN, she was in charge of technical assistance and management of complex programs on governance or/and post-conflict rehabilitation in such countries as Angola, Burundi, Cambodia, Haiti and Rwanda. Ms. Jemiai has also been in charge of the publication program. She has prepared various analytical reports and documentation for the inter-governmental UN bodies on such subject as globalization and its impact on civil service reform, changing perspectives on human resources management, Professionalism and Ethics in Africa, Metropolitan and Local Governance and Municipal International Cooperation, Leadership Development, Diversity Management and Cultural Aspects of Public Administration. Ms. Jemiai has provided advice and conducted research and evaluation in Angola, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Haiti, Mauritania, Rwanda and Senegal. With her knowledge of Africa, Asia, Europe and Arab Countries, Ms Jemiai has a rare combination of global and grassroots experience, multidisciplinary approach to development, proven negotiation and interpersonal communication skills as well as strategic planning skills. Ms Jemiai has also organized major conferences (World Conference on Metropolitan Governance-Tokyo 1993, Global Forum on Local Governance-Goteborg 1995, and African Conference of Ministers of Civil Service on Professionalism and Ethics- Rabat 1998, Global Forum on Reinventing Government- Marrakech 2002) and various UN expert group meetings. During a sabbatical leave at the United Nations University Center for Regional Integration Studies in 2003, she prepared distance learning training modules on regional integration and public administration.
