Profile:

Olympios Katsiaouni joined the United Nations in 1991 as an Advisor on Macroeconomic Management and Sustainable Development. His prior experiences were as a Senior Economist for a UN project in Gambia (1988-91), a Development Economist for a Crown Agents/World Bank project in Uganda (1985-88) and an Economic Advisor for the Ministry of Planning in Saudi Arabia (1979-85). He has a long experience as a lecturer in various training workshops and seminars on policy reform, human resource development, structural adjustment and sustainable development. He earned an M.A. in Economics from Dublin University, Ireland, in 1974, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Cambridge University, United Kingdom in 1979. Areas of Specialization: - Macroeconomic policy advice and policy reform formulation; - Capacity building in development planning and economic management; - Programme preparation and resource mobilization; - Cross-sectoral concerns in environmental management and human resource development.

Area of specialization:

Capacity building for social and economic institutions relevant to the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, the National Human Development Reports, NHDRs, and to Poverty Reduction Policies. Technical support for the development of socio-economic instruments in support of MDGs, NHDRs and Long Term Strategic Vision. Direct support and coordination of economic management, including development plans, resource mobilization, aid management and coordination, and impact assessment and project evaluations. Organisation and coordination of workshops, seminars and other interactive forums dealing with socio-economic governance, pro-poor economic policies and monitoring of MDGs. Strengthening sub-national governance bodies and structures, including at district and community level, for civil society mobilisation, decentralised forms of governance and sustainable development.
