The Statistics Division is committed to the advancement of the global statistical system. We compile and disseminate global statistical information, develop standards and norms for statistical activities, and support countries’ efforts to strengthen their national statistical systems. We facilitate the coordination of international statistical activities and support the functioning of the UN Statistical Commission as the apex entity of the global statistical system. For more, see

UN Statistical Commission 2009
The UN Statistical Commission is the apex entity of the global statistical system. It considers and approves international statistical standards and programmes to address emerging issues.

Data Search
Millennium Development Goals Report 2008
The Millennium Development Goals Report 2008, accompanied by two Progress Charts, was launched by the Secretary-General on 11 September. This annual publication presents the latest available data and analysis on the progress towards the achievement of the MDGs at the global and regional levels. This year’s Report shows how the world has fared at the mid-point towards 2015, the target date for achieving the Goals and will serve as one of the background documents for the High-level Session of the General Assembly to be held on 25 September. more..
  Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon launched Millennium Development Goals Report 2008. The Report is the most comprehensive global assessment of progress to date, based on work carried out by the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on the official MDG Indicators. more..

  The Declaration established 2015 as the target date for achievement of most of its quantifiable commitments. Half the period to this target date has now passed. The Progress Chart provides an assessment of progress as of June 2008 towards a number of the key targets relating to each Goal. more..
  The Progress Chart 2008 - Country Progress Within Regions groups countries within each region according to their degree of progress towards the achievement of the Goals. The assessment is based on statistics from 1990 until the latest year for which data are available. more..
