UN-Energy was established to promote UN system-wide collaboration in the area of energy and to maintain an overview of its major initiatives. The group focuses on substantive and collaborative actions in regard to policy development as well as in implementation in the energy area.
Representatives from UN Agencies will inform on how UN-Energy plans to support the goals of the UNFCCC. The issue of bioenergy will be used as an example of this collaboration.
The UN-Energy Side Event will be held from 13:00 to 15:00 at Aston Bali Hotel and will be announced in the Daily Programme of the events for Thursday, 13 December 2007. It will be co-chaired by Mr. K. Yumkella, Director-General of UNIDO, Chair of UN-Energy for the next biennium, and Mr. Zukang Sha, Under Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs. Former Republic of Korea Foreign Minister and former General Assembly President and a Special Envoy for Climate Change of the Secretary General, Mr. Han Seung-soo will deliver a keynote statement.
