Development of mining database

  • Executing agency: UN/DESA Division for Sustainable Development
  • Start date: 1 January 2000
  • End date: 31 December 2001
  • Partners: Ministry of Mines, European Union, UNDP
  • Total budget: USD 931,890

In close cooperation with the Directorate of Mines and Geology, the project will complete the evalutation of three (3) mineral occurrences discovered in the previous phases: Gold in the Area of Anie, Copper and Gold in Haito, and Gold in Aleheride-Bafilo. The project is financially cost-shared by the European Union. By insuring the training of the young professionals of the DGMG in specific fields as geochemistry, structural geology and geodata information systems, the project will ensure the durability of the work by taking into consideration the private sector demand for well-prepared professionals. It will promote the economic potentiality of the occurrences to mineral investors. The project will then aim at diversifying natural resources development as it has already been done in the Akposso Plateaux Area. This program was initiated by the Government of Togo in 1986. Finally, the development of new mining centers should be considered as means of integrated development of the remote country areas, of the economic and social growth, thus as a contribution to the fight against poverty.
