Mr. John-Mary Kauzya is an Adviser on Governance Systems and Institutions in the Division for Public Economics and Public Administration at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Prior to joining the United nations, he worked as a Lecturer at Makerere University, and at the Uganda Management Institute where he worked initially as Assistant lecturer, consultant, Head of Division and then as the Deputy Director of the Institute beginning with October 1995 up to July 1999 when he joined the UN.
Backed by in-depth knowledge in governance, public administration and management, and strategic planning, he has proven successful practical experience in: management and administration, management training and consultancy, and strategic planning. The consultancies he has carried out have been in the field of: writing programmes and advising governments on good governance (Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Liberia), local governments strategic planning (Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa), organisational auditing, evaluation and restructuring, corporate planning, training needs assessment, job evaluation and writing job descriptions, and facilitation of high level problem solving workshops.
Qualifications: He holds a PhD in law specialising in Public Administration and Management (Doctorat en droit: Administration et gestion public) from Sorbonne (Universite de Paris 1 Pantheon Sorbonne), a Masters degree in Public Administration from the University of Liverpool. He has attended several Universities and higher Institutions of learning including, the University of Grenoble III, the University of Clermont Ferrand, the International Institute of Public Administration of Paris, Makerere University, and the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria.
