The Division for the Advancement of Women, in collaboration with other United Nations entities, in particular the regional commissions, provides advisory services and technical assistance on gender issues to developing countries. Upon the request of Governments, the Division enhances national capabilities for the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action (1995) and the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly (2000) as well as the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (1979).
The Division provides capacity-building inputs and networking support on women's human rights, women's roles in peace and security, gender mainstreaming in different areas, including economics, and on enhancing the catalytic roles of national machineries including through improved access to ICT.
Technical cooperation responsibilities are widely spread among the professional staff in the Division.
